Anthropic has introduced its latest AI model, Claude 3.5 Haiku, which shows improved performance over its previous model, Claude 3 Opus. However, this upgrade comes at a higher price and does not yet include image analysis capabilities.
Claude 3.5 Haiku, available via Anthropic’s API and platforms like AWS Bedrock, is designed for various tasks, such as coding assistance, data extraction, and content moderation. During early announcements, Anthropic indicated that this new model would be priced similarly to its predecessor, Claude 3 Haiku. However, following testing, Anthropic has decided to increase the cost to reflect Claude 3.5 Haiku's advanced capabilities.
The updated pricing structure starts at $1 per million input tokens (around 750,000 words) and $5 per million output tokens, a significant increase from Claude 3 Haiku's previous rates of $0.25 for input tokens and $1.25 for output tokens. This adjustment makes Claude 3.5 Haiku about four times more expensive.
Currently, Claude 3.5 Haiku lacks image analysis functions, a capability that Claude 3 Haiku offered. To address this, Alex Albert, Anthropic’s head of developer relations, mentioned that Claude 3 Haiku will remain available for those prioritizing cost-efficiency and image processing.
