Nir Zicherman and Michael Mignano, the co-founders who sold Anchor to Spotify, are now launching Oboe, an AI-driven education platform. Backed by a $4 million seed round, Oboe aims to revolutionize access to learning, much like Anchor democratized podcast creation. Their new venture focuses on creating an intuitive interface that allows users to engage with personalized learning experiences through AI, audio, and video.

Zicherman and Mignano believe the education sector holds vast untapped potential. After taking time off following their exit from Spotify in 2023, they shifted focus to developing Oboe, inspired by their work in audiobooks and the potential to deliver educational content on a larger scale. However, Oboe is set to go beyond audiobooks, offering tools that adapt learning journeys to individual users’ needs.

Oboe will leverage AI to customize curriculum materials and provide an interactive learning experience. The use of synthetic AI voices and machine learning will optimize content delivery, ensuring it’s accurate and scalable. The platform will support multiple formats, such as audio for on-the-go learning and video for more in-depth engagement.

Currently, Oboe targets learners beyond K-12, such as individuals upskilling or supplementing their education. The company eventually aims to serve all age groups, with a mission to make learning more accessible to everyone.

Oboe has garnered investment from several well-known backers, including Eniac Ventures, Haystack, and Factorial Capital, many of whom supported the founders in their previous venture. Mignano will serve on the board while continuing his role as a partner at Lightspeed.

With its blend of AI-driven customization and interactive tools, Oboe is positioned to transform modern education.
